What is the Friends Club?

The Friends Club is for young adults who are out of school and who have Down syndrome.  This is a social club which meets every six weeks or so.

The Friends Club is hosted by Brianne (Brie) Nobis who is a young woman who has Down syndrome.  Brie also serves on the Board of Directors of the Down Syndrome Aim High Resource Center.

What Does the Friends Club Do?

  • The Friends Club very first event, a BBQ, which was held at Brie’s house.  About eight people came and had fun dancing, eating, playing pool and bocci ball.  There was lots of socializing!
  • The Friends Club met for pizza and a movie at Crossgates Mall.
  • The Friends Club hosts an online, private chat room.   Brie says, “There is nothing more important in life than making friends and staying in touch with them.  I am a young woman who has Down syndrome and I love to use the computer.  Aim High has set up a website where you can chat with other people who have Down syndrome in a private chat room just for us.  It is a forum/message board  for the Friends Club…to leave messages for one another and share plans about upcoming events.  So join in.  Call me, Brie, at 456-7642 to get the secret password to get into the chat room and join me on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m.”
